The Terrace End watch and clock repairs run by C J White sited on the corner of Ruahine Street and Broadway Avenue. This building is believed to have been built during the 1880s as the private residence of John Halford Anderson, a well-known contractor. Mr Anderson's wife and daughter operated a registry office in the building from about 1900 until about 1930. A registry office was a business which found employment for domestic servants. The building was later occupied by a number of commercial users until its demolition in 1969 to make way for the Terrace End Branch of the ANZ Bank, which erected a new building on the site in 1986.
