Journalist Tina White's weekly "Memory Lane" article in the Manawatū Standard. A 94 year old man's living conditions caused controversy in 1975. Bill Marshall was living independently in a run down shack behind a house in Pioneer Highway. Two weeks after the article was published, the shack was demolished and relatives encouraged Bill to move into a boarding house whilst he waited for a place in a home for the elderly.
