Journalist Tina White's weekly "Memory Lane" article in the Manawatū Standard. History of The Palmerston North Opera House. Built in 1905 in Church Street, it put the city's two earlier live venues, the Theatre Royal and the Lyceum, out of business. In 1952 it was condemned as unsafe by the Palmerston North City Council and was strengthened and remodelled both inside and out in 1955. In the 1990s, it was decided to upgrade the Regent. The Opera House was sold by Council to a businessman in 1994 and demolished in 1996.
