James Linton was the second Mayor of the Palmerston Borough. He was elected to office in 1879, 1880, 1881 and 1884. He was Mayor for a total of four years. Born in Scotland, Mr Linton was attracted to Australia and New Zealand by the gold rushes of the 1850s and 1860s.
