This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on Monday 6th August 1984. "Masterton's Dianne Taylor retained the women's crown by covering the 21.1k course in 1h 21m 48s. It was outside her winning time of 1h 20m 6s from last year."
"Taylor was not worried about her slower time as she had used the event as a 'training run' for the forthcoming national cross-country championships in Auckland." Second place, claimed by Bernadette Portenski (Scottish Harriers), was 26s behind Taylor.
Nearly 800 competitors took part in the Manawatu Lion Brown half-marathon in 1984.
