Mr Carl Edward (Charles) Dahl was born in Denmark in 1856 and died in Palmerston North in 1929. He was a tent-maker and sail-maker by trade, but was the first storekeeper in Rongotea (then known as Campbelltown) in 1881. He commenced business in Palmerston North in 1885 and his two-story wooden factory in Main Street East (between The Square and Princess Street) was a well known business house for many years. Mr Dahl was known as a agent for dairy machinery and also as a Danish Vice-Consul.
