This image was published in the July 23rd 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper with the caption: "Even at a social function, he can’t resist checking the quality of the wine. Here Malcolm Reeves, who won several prizes, checks the quality of another brew.”
The article read: “The Manawatu Wine Circle’s first presentation of trophies occurred in Palmerston North on July 15. The club was awarding prize-winning titles to its members in previous years, for various classes of wine-making, but the presentation of trophies was a first for the club.
Wanganui wine-makers were also invited to the ceremony, which was part of a social function the club held at the Awapuni Park Community Centre. And what provided the liquid refreshment for the wine-making enthusiasts? Their own wines and beers, of course.
