This view of Palmerston North is taken from a temporary Post Office tower at the corner of Pitt and Church Streets, which was in place to test to see if a microwave link between Palmerston North and Wellington would work. The street to the left is Main Street and to the right Church Street. The Art Gallery is in the foreground on the left behind the parked cars, while on the right is Commercial Travellers' Club, the Museum behind it and the Grand Hotel on the Corner of The Square and Church Street West. The new Civic Administration Building for the Palmerston North City Council is under construction left of the centre of the photograph.
