The Square from Rangitikei Street to Broad Street (now Broadway Avenue)
- Description
From left: [1] Fenton's Royal Hotel (formerly Bank of New Zealand, currently occupied by shops) was established c 1872 by either Charles Buick or John James. Charles was John's son. John died in 1891 at the age of 57, so he was only 38 in 1872; it seems more likely John was the founder. The two story building was built in the early 1880s. [2] ? possibly part of the hotel. [3]
