Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, visited Palmerston North 6-7 January 1954, staying overnight at the Grand Hotel. The city was decorated with lights to welcome them. There was a similar crown decoration on top of the band rotunda in The Square, but this appears to be in a different location. This negative was copied from a series of slides taken around 1954.
