Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, visited Palmerston North 6-7 January 1954, staying overnight at the Grand Hotel (shown on the right side of the image). The Municipal Chamber (now Square Edge), which can be seen to the left of All Saints Church, is decorated for the visit.
