This image was published in an advertising feature in the September 17th 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper.
The feature included a short history of Mills Bros. Ltd: “Mills Bros. Ltd. was originally formed as a company in 1904 (some 74 years ago) by Mr J.W. Mills but in those days was a plumbing company only. After World War Two Mr Russell Mills and his brother Mr Alick Mills decided to venture into the furnishing world and thus Mills Bros. Furnishers was born. The company purchased an old building in Main St (next door to the original Plumbing Company). Times were hard, but with personal service and sacrifice the company started to build up. It gradually extended its premises from the original approx. 1200sqft to the present building (still on the same site) of approx 18,000sqft. It was, and still is this personal service that made this company what it is today. The present Managing Director is the same Managing Director that started the company, and when you build up something on service, you never let that service drop. Mills Bros Ltd has grown from a small private business into a large and prosperous business with a present total staff of 14, but has still retained it’s personal service, it’s individuality and it’s large range of high quality merchandise and possibly most importantly in these days of large combines and chain stores where you are just a number and not a person, Mills Bros. Ltd. is still operated by it's original founders, and is still completely privately owned.”
Note – the original grammar of the advert has been retained.
The Mills Bros. Ltd. Store closed in 2025.
