Charles Dunk (c1850-1921)was Mayor of Palmerston North 1903-1904, and a Borough Councillor 1905-1907. He was born in England and purchased land at Bainesse after arriving in New Zealand. In 1891 he organised the Manawatu Mounted Rifles and became a Captain, and later a Major, in the volunteer corps.
