Description

This image was taken for a story that ran in the Manawatu Evening Standard on 12 July, 1963. "The New Zealand Forest Service (Wellington conservancy) has recently been equipped with new fire tenders. Two have already been acquired and a third is being built. The new machines can carry 2000ft of hose, ancillary fire-fighting equipment and emergency rations. The three machines will service the Wellington conservancy, and the one pictured (right) will be based at Guavas. This machine was used recently in assisting the bad flood areas in Hawke's Bay. With every modern equipment the machines are kept at the alert to travel to any thread of fire, to the many State forests in the conservancy. Also in the picture is an old fire tender used by the service."
