Local historians weekly "Back Issues" article in the Manawatū Standard. The story of Eileen Neilson, later Eileen Savell (1883-1970) a Pohangina farmer who for over three years served in Egypt during World War 1. Eileen joined a volunteer organisation, the Volunteer Sisterhood. She worked in a canteen on arrival in Cairo, followed by work at the Red Cross hospital in Giza. Correpondece from Eileen to her brother Charles is held in the Ian Matheson City Archives.
