Description

Mrs Snelson was the wife of George Matthew Snelson, pioneer storekeeper of Palmerston North and first Mayor of the Borough. She arrived in Palmerston North in 1871 and died in 1919. Her obituary in the Manawatu Daily Times 16 December 1919 described her as the "Mother of Palmerston".
