Ashhurst School opened in September 1879. The head teacher at the time of these photographs was Mr R. Norm Finlay, who held the position from c.1935-1954. Other teachers included Mrs M. E. R. Finlay, Miss M. E. Edwards and Miss H. M. Nicholson. The school had a roll of 155 in 1951.
