Description

Looking upstream this photograph shows all the flaxmills situated on the bank of the Manawatu River at Foxton. The flaxmills are as follows: "Foxton" Mill (A.King and Co.) in foreground; "Star" Mill (G.Coley) second from foreground, with tall black smokestack; "Ora" Mill (H.Greig's "Whitaunui Ltd) on far left; "Awa" Mill (H.Berry) obscured behind first three mills; "Whitaunui" Mill (H.Greig) in distance, immediately above apex of roof of shed in foreground; "Huia" Mill (J.Rose)in distance, to right of "Whitaunui" Mill; "Kowhai" and "Matipo" Mills (Bock and Coley), far right in the distance.
