The original framing on this photograph states, "Presented by the Te Awe Awe Scout troop committee as an expression of appreciation and thanks for the use of the building for parades". College Street School was established in 1893 to cater for the growth of the borough between the old railway and river with George Grant as its first headmaster. College Street School was established in 1893 on the west side of College Street, opposite the present buildings (2015). The original building (shown here) was demolished in 1937.
