4th NEW ZEALAND DIVISION.
SPECIAL ROUTINE ORDER NO. 2.

PALMERSTON NORTH,
13 May 43.

Units representing 4th N.Z. Division, RNZAF, and WWSA, will parade
through PALMERSTON NORTH on 14 May 43 for the purpose of celebrating the
allied victory in NORTH AFRICA.

The Officer Commanding 4th N.Z. Division will take the salute.

  1. Officer Commanding the Parade: Lt-Col J.G. Nolan.

  2. Dress:
    (a) 4 Div (excl WAAC) - Battle order, with haversack containing
    groundsheets. Bayonets will be fixed
    at assembly areas.

(b) RNZAF - As detailed in RNZAF Orders.

(c) WAAC and WWSA - As detailed by respective comds.

  1. Organisation and Order of March.
    (a) 4 Div Tks and MT - (i) MMR
    (ii) 2 Fd Regt
    (iii) 22 A Tk Bty
    (iv) Carrier pl, 1 Tara.

(b) RNZAF Band.

(c) (i) 1 HB

  1. Moves to Assembly Areas.
    As per Movement Table att as Appx A.

  2. March through City.
    (a) Parade will move in the order detailed in para 3.

(b) Head of coln will move at 1400 hrs.

(c) Speed for tks and MR: 10 mph.

(d) Intervals for tks and MT: 25 yds.

(e) Route: Parade will march round the perimeter of the SQUARE
in a clockwise direction, leaving via FITZHERBERT AVE
(see route trace, Appx B).

(f) The Saluting Base will be located on the right 40-yds past
the POST OFFICE (see Appx B).

(g) The orders "Eyes right" and "Eyes front" will be given by pl
and equivalent comds as the parade passes markers to the left
and right of saluting base.

(h) Gps detailed in para 3 (b) (c) (d) and (e) will move off under
orders of the Parade Marshal.

(j) Intervals: 5-yds between platoons, 15-yds between coys, 50-yds
between units, 100-yds between WAAC and RNZAF.

  1. RNZAF Band.
    (a) The RNZAF Band will, on arrival, fall in at the head of RNZAF
    Coln in LINTON ST.

(b) On reaching the POST OFFICE, the Band will leave the coln,
play 1 HB, 1 Tata and WAAC past the Saluting Base, and then
rejoin the coln at the head of the RNZAF marching personnel.

10 Movement of Troop-carrying MT.
(a) RNZAF tp-carrying vehs will, after debussing, move via FERGUSON
ST to RANFURLY ST, and halt with head of coln at COLLEGE ST.

(b) Tp-carrying tpt of 1 HB will remain in SOUTH ST facing FERGUSON ST.

11 Dispersal.
(a) MMR, 2 Fd Regt and 22 A Tk Bty will retuned to their respective
camps via FITZHERBERT AVE, increasing speed to 20 mph at June
FERGUSON ST - FITZHERBERT AVE. MMR will increase speed to
25 mph after crossing FITZHERBET ST BR.

(b) Carrier pl 1Tara will return to camp via Park Rd.

(c) 1 HB will proceed to embussing area via COLLEGE ST and SOUTH
ST, embus, and move immediately via FERGUSON ST and FITZ-
HERBERT AVE.

  1. Traffic Control.
    DAPM will provide traffic control in accordance with the Senior
    Traffic Inspector's requirements.
