This photograph was taken from the Post Office Tower and shows Main Street East. The railway line ran through The Square and up Main Street until 1964. Despite the poor quality of this print, there is some interesting information contained, including views of Devine's Hotel [Empire Hotel], Alex M Wighton's Seed Manufacturers and Charles Dahl's hosiery factory (the word Dahl's can be read very faintly behind Wighton's). On the extreme right is the former Court House for Palmerston North.
