"Proof Machine For Bank"
- Description
This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 9 May, 1959. "A major advancement will be made in the handling and processing of cheques and lodgments by the installation of a proof machine at the Square and Coleman Place branch of the Australia and New Zealand Bank today. This machine, which is capable of handling up to 1500 vouchers an hour in the hands of a skilled operator, is so large that it was necessary when siting it in the bank's bookkeeping department on the first floor of their building to lift it by crane through a window which had been removed to allow access. This operation took place at seven o'clock this morning and some care was necessary as, although it is a robust machine, it is most complex and awkward to handle. The photograph shows Miss I. Cochrane operating the new machine."
