This series of images was taken for a story that ran in on the front page of The Manawatu Evening Standard on 10 February, 1987. The story pertains to the mortgagee auction of a farm owned by Paul Geurtjens of Bulls. Up to 700 protesters attended the auction at Harcourts real estate on Fitzherbert Avenue. Auction proceedings were interrupted by protesters placing false bids and drowning out proceedings. The property was not sold as it didn’t raise a bid. The images of Longburn workers protesting appear on the same roll of film, however it is unclear if theese are from the same event.
