Journalist Tina White's weekly "Memory Lane" article in the Manawatū Standard. Brian Dredge recalls his father Cyril Dredge's war time experiences and career. Cyril Dredge joined the Manawatū Home Guard during World War II. He was an active member of the Takaro Battalion of the Home Guard.
In 1942, the government issued Emergency Precautions Services regulations, which led to Cyril building a family air raid shelter on their Featherston Street property.
Cyril Dredge's career included a spell in the airforce and teaching at Campbell Street School.
