Description

Palmerston North experienced a period of severe water shortage in the summer of 1943-1944, when the level of the lake a Turitea fell 3.5m below the bywash of the dam. The city's diminishing water supply was reported in the Manawatu Times, 29 February 1944, which described how "tons of silt and mud accumulated over the last six or seven years" had displaced "much-needed water."
