Description

James Burtton, right, lived for many years in this whare on his property by the Tokomaru Stream. He is shown on the right with Joe Andersen and his younger brother after deer stalking. Later, when his access bridge collapsed and dropped him into the stream, he was severley injured. After crawling a long distance to feed his dogs he turned around and crawled to a neighbour’s residence for help. He died in hospital on 15 March 1941 and was buried in Kelvin Grove Cemetery.
