Description

The second Fitzherbert Bridge, built by Fletcher Construction Co. Ltd, was opened 20 July 1935 by Viscount Galway, Governor General. This snapshot was taken after the ribbon had been cut at the offical opening. The second bridge replace the original structure built in 1877. It remained in use until 1986 when it proved too small for the volume of traffic, particularly as it serves the main route to Massey University.
