Description

In 1971 the IHC acquired 35 acres of land from the Pinfold Estate. Plans were prepared for a workshop on the site. In October 1973 the first residential hostel was opened at the Aokautere Rural Training Unit and the workshop itself was opened in September 1974. A second residential hostel, Pinfold, was opened in 1977. Work opportunities at the training unit include tasks in the woodworking workshop, plant nursery and farm work.
