This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 27 June, 1959. "The Takaro area was spring cleaned by the Palmerston North Jaycees today. It is the second portion of the city to receive the benefit of this annual project. The salvageable rubbish is sorted out and will later be sold, the proceeds from which will purchase equipment for the Intellectually Handicapped Children. The photograph shows several Jaycees sorting over the rubbish at the tip."
