Description

The house is on the western side of the main street (now Cambridge Ave) through Ashhurst. Jack and Tom Garner were contractors, whose work included carting metal and timber in the district and making the road from Ashhurst to Pohangina. They sold their contracting business to younger brother Alfred, who later sold to Pat Hanlon.
