Sir William Fox was Premier of New Zealand four times. He was born in 1812 in England. In 1843 he was appointed Resident Agent of the New Zealand Company in Nelson. He lived in the Rangitikei from 1849 to the mid 1880s, having build his home 'Westoe' in 1874. He died in Auckland in 1893.
