Journalist Tina White's weekly "Memory Lane" article in the Manawatū Standard. Billy Larkins (1896-1971) was a dance band leader and talented pianist. By the 1920s, he had formed the Larkins' Elite Orchestra, which performed around Manawatū and beyond. But he also had another identity. He was Wiremu Kingi Te Awe Awe, great nephew of Rangitāne leader Te Peeti Te Awe Awe.
