Description

The Makerua Swamp block shown here was owned by A & L Seifert's Flaxmilling Company Ltd who established the Miranui Flaxmill in 1907. Their main tramline ran from the mill to the swamp, carrying a locomotive to cart the flax for processing. The photo was taken from the bridge over the Tokomaru Stream, looking westwards towards the flax swamp. Note the tree stumps as there was a belt of bush along the stream banks.
