The Coronation Fountain was first constructed near the centre of The Square in 1902. It was moved in 1926 to accommodate the new war memorial that commemorated those who fell in WWI.

The fountain sat in its new position in The Square, opposite what is now the City Library, until it was again moved to its present location near the corner of Broadway and The Square in 2005.
