A group of recruits eat and drink outdoors, somewhere in the vicinity of the Awapuni Military Training Camp, one of New Zealand’s largest training camps in World War One, and was the sole location for training the New Zealand Medical Corps staff. The inscription on the reverse reads: "Oct 4. 1918
Our mess – we were all hard at it when this was taken. Notice the shake of my mouth made by eating bread and jam
Harry."
