This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 12 January, 1959. "The sixth unofficial British Commonwealth Relations Conference was officially opened by the Governor-General (Lord Cobham) at the Opera House today. The photograph shows part of the official party. They are (from left to right): Professor C.E. Carrington (partly obscured), Sir John Slessor, the Prime Minister (Mr Nash), the chairman of the conference (Dr J.C. Beaglehole), the Mayor (Mr W.B. Tennent, M.P.), and the Minister of Education (Mr Skoglund)." Another photo of the delegates appears on the same day.
