This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 06 April 1963, "World-renowned New Zealand athletes Murray Halberg and Peter Snell arrived at the Palmerston North Airport from Auckland this morning en route to Tararua College, where they will compete against relay teams drawn from Wairarapa colleges at a gala day to raise funds for a Tararua College gymnasium. Both men have relations in Eketahuna (Halberg was born there), but they will be staying at an hotel tonight before leaving for Auckland tomorrow. Tonight they will speak at a youth meeting in Pahiatua. In the photograph (from the left) are Mr. I. R. McLean (principal, Tararua College), Peter Snell, Murray Halberg and Mr. W. A. Carthew (chairman of the college's management committee)."
