Luit H. Bieringa, Former Director of the National Art Gallery
- Description
Luit H Bieringa was director of the Manawatu Art Gallery, succeeding Mr I E North, in 1971. He later became Director of the National Art Gallery, from 1979 - 1999. Luit Bieringa was born in Holland but spent most of his life in New Zealand. After graduating with a BA from Auckland University, he studied art in Perugia, Italy. He returned to New Zealand in 1966 and gained a Master of Arts in German. Mr Bieringa taught at Selwyn College in Auckland for three years.
