This building, on the corner of Mulgrave and Stanford streets, served as the Ashhurst Police Station during the time that Alfred Pennefather was police constable in the town (April 1895 until 31 March 1896). He rented the six room cottage from Thomas Nelson, publican, for ten shillings per week.
