This one room cell was an outbuilding at the third Ashhurst Police Station, which located on Guildford Street from 1922 until 1944. The cell was removed to the back yard of Constable Jock Watt's property in Storford Street in 1960 and used as a shed. It was photographed by Ray Carter when researching his book 'Beyond the Call of Duty': a History of the Palmerston North Police District (1988).
This image is derived from a copy negative made from a photograph that was loaned for copying. The original photographic print is not held by the Ian Matheson City Archives.
