John (known as Jock) Watt was the police constable in Ashhurst from 10 October 1948 until his retirement on 10 May 1962. He was born in Keith, Scotland, and migrated to New Zealand in 1924. Two years later he joined the police in Dunedin and was transferred to Wellington, Palmerston North (1927-1938) and Tauranga. He passed away in 1977.
