The Indian troops of the British Imperial Army toured New Zealand and visited Palmerston North for a short time. The train stopped in the centre of The Square, the troops disembarked, performed some displays and them re-embarked on the train. For an account of their reception, see Manawatu Times, 25 February 1901, Page 2 (available online at paperspast.natlib.govt.nz). Note the original wooden All Saints Church on the far left of the image.
