The Square, Palmerston North
- Description
This view of the Square, looking across to Fitzherbert Avenue and Church Street corner, contains some of the monuments in the Square, the railway line and the buildings on the Church Street West side of The Square. Sitting either side of the rail line can be seen the band rotunda, built in 1907 to replace a smaller version that was taken to the Esplanade, and the War Memorial, unveiled 7 February 1926. Some buildings to note are: the two-storey Bank of New Zealand, built in 1902 on the corner of The Square and Fitzerbert Avenue, the Manawatu Evening Standard offices (the art deco structure in the middle of Church Street West side of The Square) and the All Saints Church and Grand Hotel on opposite sides of the Church Street West corner.
