Mrs Evans was elected chief commissioner of the New Zealand Girls Guides Association and took up her appointment on January 30th, 1983. Mrs Evans became the national leader of the 50,000 member movement after 10 years involvement with guides, starting at local level helping with administration and moving up the ranks to Manawatu Provincial Commissioner and International Adviser.
