This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 30 April, 1957, page 9. "City Council workmen were engaged on the erection of the new “Saftey City” signs today. This one was erected just inside the city boundary on Pioneer Highway. Palmerston North will be officially declared a Safety City tomorrow by the Minister of Transport (Mr Goosman)."
