A road extends from Fitzherbert Street (Avenue) to the railway tracks in the centre of The Square, from where the photograph has been taken. The building on the right hand corner of Fitzherbert Street is the Bank of New Zealand (BNZ), recently rebuilt in 1902. The wooden All Saints church can be seen far right, replaced in 1913 by the current All Saints (2008).
