“Cue Queue at I.H.C. Workshop”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the September 10th 1978 edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper – the first of which was published with the caption: “Rhonda Whitson tries out the new table, watched by Mr Sharp (fourth from left) the IHC's Palmerston North administrator, Mr John Doolan (second from left), and members of the opportunity workshop. They are: Warren Mackay, Helen Wiwarena, Lynette Doolan, Linda Clarke, Fiona Stayt, Malcolm Campbell, and Tim Simiss. At the extreme right is the opportunity workshop manager, Mr Don Budge.
The short article read: “Thirty pool tables are being donated by Rothmans New Zealand Ltd to IHC workshops throughout the country - and the Palmerston North workshop received its table on Wednesday. People at the workshop couldn't wait to try it out, and were using it before it was "officially" handed over. The presentation was made by the company's Wellington regional manager, Mr David Sharp, and received by the trainees' social committee. Six of the tables are being donated to IHC workshops in the southern half of the North Island, he said, and they've all been specially made for the workshops. The pool tables are all collapsible, so they can be put away easily, and the HС believes they will have therapeutic value for the people using them, he said. Using the pool tables, it is thought, will improve the IH people's co-ordination, colour recognition, and numerical ability. He said it's hoped that other companies will make similar gifts to IH workshops.”
