This building was designed by Thomas Harvey James, and thought to have been constructed around 1895. The Manchester Unity Order of Oddfellows was a mutual aid organisation, whose members paid subscriptions in exchange for financial support in times of illness or death.

Known additions and alterations include work in 1905, 1909-10, and in 1954 that probably included plastering its exterior. A local businessman bought it in 1969 and converted it into an auction mart. Watson & Eyre Printers Ltd. then occupied it between 1980 and 2012, before it became a dance studio in 2013. Although the exterior differs significantly from James’ work, the interior retains some of his original features. The name ‘Manchester Unity Hall’ is still apparent on the upper façade.
