George Shailer (c1846-1918) and his wife Septuagesima (c1849-1921) arrived in New Zealand from England 1874, with their four eldest daughters. They subsequently raised 12 children. They first settled in Feilding, moved to farm at Makino and finally, due to George's ill health, settled in Palmerston North where George set up a photography business in Main Street. On retirement he took up land in Hokowhitu and established a commercial orchard. Back row from left: Charlie; Alf; Arthur; George; William; Henry.
