Ohakea Air Force Base was constructed on land near Bulls in the Manawatu, 1937 to 1939. It was built in anticipation of the arrival of bombers, ordered for delivery in October 1939. The initial construction included housing and maintenance facilities for the new bombers, workshops, administration buildings and accommodation for servicemen and dependents. The image shows the construction of accommodation barracks and one of the hangers. Photograph found in album related to the Humphries family of Greytown.
